Horse sponges are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Choose a small sponge to use only on your horse's head and a large sponge for washing their body. If you use a brace or liniment after hot weather workouts, get a second large body sponge to use only with that product. Every horse should have its own set of sponges to avoid the spread of contagious conditions. When you are shopping for sponges, remember to order some tack sponges, too. A horse sweat scraper is an inexpensive, yet indispensable item. A sweat scraper removes excess water or perspiration from a horse's coat to speed the drying process.
